Life's Too Short book review

I absolutely loved this book when I first read it. At the time, I had no interest in YouTube. Maybe this book sparked that interest. I don't know. Maybe my journal would know.

This book is called Life's Too Short because, well...life is too short.

Life's Too Short by Abby Jimenez is a fiction novel with a romantic comedy theme.

My favorite character in the story is Brent.

Brent is Vanessa's half-brother, and the reason he's my favorite character is because he helps you see a completely different side of Vanessa.

Vanessa has this really tragic story, but she's upbeat, she's quirky, and she's pushing along. She's making the best of it. As you're reading, you meet the baby she's taking care of, and you can't help but root for her.

Then Brent comes around.

You get to see that she's the one taking care of the family. You learn she's invested in his little harebrained schemes before. She's paying for the house that Annabelle was living in, and Brent lives across the street.

So he's part of the family, but also on the outside enough that Vanessa has a different relationship with him than she has with everyone else.

Brent is a supporting character. Vanessa and Aiden are cute, and then you have Grace, but I think you'd be missing something if Brent wasn't in the book.

You'd miss his little comments, his sarcasm, and his cheekiness.

That's why Brent is so important to the story. He really helps us understand more about Vanessa.

"Some supporting characters make the entire story better. Brent is one of them."

By far, and this is a spoiler, I love that Brent comes around by the end of the story and Vanessa can finally be proud of him.

When you have siblings and one of them is always asking for money, needing something, or wanting to be bailed out, it's such a great feeling when things finally work out for them. When they can be proud of themselves and their family can be proud of them too, that's the best.

Another little spoiler is that Vanessa is a YouTuber.

She makes a video that ends up going viral, and then she keeps recording. Throughout the story, you get to see the different relationships she has with people and how YouTube becomes part of her life.

I mean...Life's Too Short. I had to review the book. She's a YouTuber. I'm a YouTuber. It just made sense.

Would I reread Life's Too Short?

Yes.

In fact, this was my second time reading it.

I started doing book reviews in March 2022, and I asked myself, "What books have you read that you absolutely love and need to tell people about?"

This was one of them.

I loved it the first time I read it, and I loved it just as much the second time.

It's one of those books where you finish the last page and immediately wonder, "What's Vanessa doing today?"

That's how you know you've connected with the characters.
