Can you imagine earning $25,000 for a one-hour speech? Wow. Let's get our life together and find out how to be the best entrepreneurs we can be.
Hey, this is Kyla Denanyoh. Today, we're discussing the book Entrepreneurial You. Dorie Clark wrote this book. The book's genre is nonfiction. The book's theme is business management. The tagline of this book is: Monetize your expertise, create multiple streams of income, and thrive. Yes, please.
One of the most important aspects of monetizing your expertise is deciding what you want to do. Dorie goes through podcasting. Is that for you? Would you like to start a blog? Do you want to run an in-person course? This book was published in 2017, so I would love to see an update post and see how things are changing in the virtual course space.
One of my favorite aspects of this book is the inclusion of numerous action items. In every chapter, Dorie either provides an example of a template email or poses a thought-provoking question, ensuring you retain all the information. Some examples are: downloading a free copy of the Standout Self-Assessment, which enabled me to grow my email list by 150%. I want to do that. Also, what do others consistently ask for your advice about that you could turn into a blog or talk about on other people's websites? Is it possible to systematize that knowledge and create a course from it?
If you're going to monetize your expertise, what are you an expert in? Well, I've been running a podcast for three years. I'm often asked how to start a podcast and what to do about it. I think I'll become a podcast launch coach. And so I did that, and it's been a lot of fun. I've helped multiple people launch podcasts, and I'm over the moon because I could talk about podcasting all day long. And while the clients I'm attracting don't have time for that, they are letting me stay in my wheelhouse and play, edit, and clean up their audio.
Dorie also talks about creating multiple streams of income. I'm talking affiliate links. I'm talking about blog ads. I'm talking about podcast sponsorships. I'm talking about dedicated podcast episodes, dedicated blogs, you know, speaking engagements. My mind was blown. I was like, 'She's paid for coaching as well.' And I was like, oh, y'all getting money, money. I'm going to get some cash. However, people are paying you because they recognize that you possess the necessary experience, and they are confident that you will deliver the value, which is why they are willing to compensate you for it.
And so, what is the last thing here? What does it mean for you to thrive? For you, if you are in a very comfortable place, you may not need multiple streams of income, or you've narrowed down your expertise, but you don't have time for anyone else. You're so busy working 95 hours a week with your own business that you're not thriving in your professional life. So, you have to determine what it means for you to thrive, and you have to run, chase, yell, and do all the things necessary to achieve it. Because there's no point in monetizing your expertise or having multiple streams of income if you're not going to thrive. They work together. It's a three-part step.
Until the next book review, Kyla
