21 Success Secrets of Self-Made Millionaires book review

So if you're going to be a millionaire, you need to make sure that you're alive to enjoy your millions, that you're in great shape, that you treat yourself like your own boss, and a couple other things.

There are a couple of things in this book that I absolutely love.

The first thing is this: if you're going to become a millionaire, you need to make sure you're alive to enjoy those millions.

Brian Tracy says you need to look at your life and imagine yourself at 80 years old. What do you need to do now to live to be 80 so you can enjoy your millions?

That was mind-blowing to me. I was thinking, "Wait. I probably should change my diet. I probably should move my body. I probably should do this. I probably should do that."

If I'm going to be alive until 80, then I need to be in good physical fitness. My heart needs to be happy. I need to be eating some vegetables every day.

Practical advice.

Brian Tracy also says you need to act like you're self-employed no matter who signs your cheque.

What's the point of that?

If I were my own boss, I would get up and work even when I'm tired. I would also decide, "No, I'm not going to work late because I have to go home and record this book review."

If I were my own boss and someone wasn't treating me fairly, then I would leave.

Wait a minute.

If you're acting like you're your own boss, you'll remember that you have autonomy.

I love that because if you're going to become a self-made millionaire, you have to encourage yourself. You have to motivate yourself. You have to work even when you don't feel like working. Thinking of yourself as your own boss, even if you're working a nine-to-five before you leave, changes your mindset.

Another lesson I really love from this book is to commit to excellence.

Brian Tracy says you need to look at the people who are in the top 10% of your field, no matter what that field is.

For me, I'm a podcaster. I also launch podcasts for other people, and I'm a podcast strategist.

That means I need to look at the top 10% of podcast strategists. I need to look at the top 10% of podcasters. I need to look at the top 10% of people in the media industry.

What are they doing? What did they do to get there? How often do they publish episodes? What's their pricing like? What's their education? What's their background?

The last thing I want to mention comes from chapter one: dream big dreams.

Brian Tracy says to get out a pen and paper and write down 10 things that are important to you right now. Then look at that list and choose one thing that you can accomplish within the next year that would completely change your life.

Maybe that's earning $5 million. Maybe it's losing 40 pounds. Maybe it's paying off your car.

Whatever it is, pick the one goal that would have the biggest impact on your life and go after it.

Because if you can't even dream, how are you going to chase those dreams? How are you going to work toward them? How are you going to see yourself as self-employed? How are you going to stay motivated?

Once you're able to dream those big dreams, you can chase after them, run after them, change your life, and ultimately become a self-made millionaire.

Would I reread The 21 Success Secrets of Self-Made Millionaires?

Absolutely.

I bought the book because it's phenomenal, and it's really not that big. This is even the large-print version, so a regular copy would be even smaller.

I like to read three or four chapters at a time. Some days I'll take one chapter and read it multiple times because you really want to capture the theme.

It's not about burning through the book and saying, "Okay, I'm done."

It's about asking yourself:

"What does it really mean to commit to excellence?"

"What does excellence actually look like?"

You really want to dive into it. It's almost like reading a textbook.
